This script is designed to analyze market price trends by identifying and projecting a dynamic "channel" on your trading chart. Instead of relying on simple moving averages or standard linear regressions, it uses a specific geometric logic based on structural price points to define the current market's trajectory.
How the Logic Works
1. Identifying Key Market Structural Points (Fractals) The script begins by scanning back through a set number of previous candles (determined by your timeframe) to find significant "turning points" in the price action. These are known as fractals—peaks where the price reached a local high or valleys where it hit a local low compared to the bars surrounding them.
2. Establishing the Channel Slope Once the script identifies two consecutive structural points of opposite types (for example, a significant high followed by a significant low), it calculates the mathematical "step" or slope between them. This step represents the rate at which the price is moving over time. By calculating this ratio, the script determines if the prevailing trend is ascending, descending, or flat.
3. Calculating the Boundary Lines Using the established slope, the script projects two parallel boundaries:
- The Outer Limits: These lines act as the "walls" of the price channel. The script calculates these by taking the identified structural points and extending them forward into the future based on the calculated slope.
- The Median Line: A third, dotted line is drawn exactly in the middle of the two outer boundaries. This serves as a visual guide for the "fair value" or the center of the current price movement.
4. Dynamic Adjustment and Intersection Detection The logic doesn't just draw static lines; it actively monitors if the current price is breaking out of these established boundaries. If the price moves outside the projected corridor, the script identifies this as a potential trend shift or exhaustion point. It then updates the coordinates to ensure the channel remains relevant to the most recent price action.
Visual Output on Your Chart
The script provides a clear visual representation of the market's "path":
- Trend Lines: Two solid lime-colored lines define the upper and lower bounds of the current trend.
- Median Line: A dotted line shows the center point of that trend.
- Real-time Data: The script provides an on-screen comment showing the total size of the channel and the specific slope (the speed and direction) of the current movement.
Summary for the Trader
In essence, this tool automates the process of "drawing channels." It removes human subjectivity by using mathematical structural points to define where the price should stay within a trend. If the price stays between the solid lines, the current trend is intact; if it breaks out, it signals a potential change in market dynamics.
