Slope Direction Line_v2
Download scriptThis tool is designed to provide traders with a clearer view of market trends by identifying and highlighting directional shifts in price action. It utilizes a sophisticated moving average calculation known as the Hull Moving Average, which is specifically engineered to reduce "lag"—the delay between a price change and its appearance on a chart.
Core Logic Overview
The script functions by processing historical price data through three distinct mathematical stages to filter out market noise and pinpoint current momentum:
1. Signal Smoothing (The Vector Calculation) Instead of looking at the raw price directly, the tool first creates a "vector" calculation. It compares two different versions of weighted moving averages (one based on half of your chosen period and one on the full period). By doubling the smaller average and subtracting the larger one, the script isolates the immediate velocity of the price movement. This helps in capturing fast-moving changes that standard indicators might miss.
2. Trend Refinement The script then takes that raw vector and applies a second layer of smoothing (a moving average of the averages). This creates a stabilized path on your chart. By doing this, the tool eliminates minor "wiggles" or insignificant price fluctuations, ensuring that the trend line remains smooth and easier for a human observer to interpret.
3. Directional Identification Finally, the logic evaluates the direction of this smoothed path. It constantly checks whether the current value is higher or lower than the previous one:
- Uptrend Detection: If the path is moving upward, the script identifies this as an active uptrend.
- Downtrend Detection: If the path is moving downward, it identifies this as an active downtrend.
Visual Representation
To make these findings actionable for the user, the script separates these two movements into distinct visual layers:
- It paints a specific line (Light Blue) only when the logic confirms an Uptrend.
- It paints a different line (Tomato) only when the logic confirms a Downtrend.
By separating these, the tool provides a clear visual "switch." Rather than showing one continuous line that might be confusing to read, it highlights the active trend state, allowing traders to see exactly where momentum has shifted from one direction to another.
