SuperTrend

This script is designed to act as a visual trend-following indicator for trading charts. Its primary purpose is to identify the current market direction and plot specific price levels that help traders visualize where a trend might be reversing or holding steady.

Core Methodology

The logic relies on three main pillars of data to determine the market's "path":

  1. Volatility Measurement: The script looks at recent price history to calculate market volatility (how much the price is swinging).
  2. Price Positioning: It calculates a "median" point for each candle (the halfway mark between the high and low prices) and then projects boundaries above and below that point based on the volatility measured in step one.
  3. Trend Detection: By comparing where the current market price closes relative to these boundaries, the script decides whether the trend is moving upward or downward.

How it Functions on Your Chart

Instead of just drawing a simple line, the logic follows a "breakout" system:

  • Trend Up: When the price closes significantly above the upper boundary, the script identifies an upward trend. It then plots a line representing the "floor" (the lower boundary) that the price must stay above to maintain that trend.
  • Trend Down: When the price closes significantly below the lower boundary, the script identifies a downward trend. It then plots a line representing the "ceiling" (the upper boundary) that the price must stay below to continue its descent.

Dynamic Adaptations

The script includes smart logic to ensure the lines remain smooth and relevant:

  • Trend Persistence: If the market is moving but stays within the established boundaries, the indicator holds its current line rather than jumping erratically.
  • Smart Reset: When a clear reversal occurs (e.g., the price breaks from an uptrend into a downtrend), the script detects this "change of trend." It automatically adjusts the lines to ensure a clean visual transition, preventing overlapping signals and making it easier for the user to see exactly when the market's momentum has shifted.

In summary, this tool filters out minor market noise by focusing on significant price breakouts, providing a clear visual map of the current market "track" and highlighting the key levels where those trends are being supported or resisted.
